Wonderland Trail. The name says it all. Maybe you’ve been fortunate enough to hike the 93 mile trail that circumnavigates 14,410 foot tall Mount Rainier. It’s peak dominates the view from Seattle to an extent that locals just refer to it as ‘the mountain’. With 26 major glaciers Rainier is the most glaciated peak in the lower 48. From Rainier stems 5 rivers and its peak is often enveloped in clouds as if it’s hiding itself from discovery. While dubbed a “Mount” it is actually an active volcano. Geothermal heat from the volcano keeps areas of both crater rims free of snow and ice, and has formed the world's largest volcanic glacier cave network within the ice-filled craters, with nearly 2 miles of passages. Rainier is absolutely a wonderland.
