The Inspiration:

The Paiute Indians called it Too-man-i-goo-yah, which means 'the very old man.' Today this peak, the highest in the lower 48 states of the USA at 14,505 feet (4,421 m), is known to us as Mount Whitney. Hikers try and summit before noon as lighting strikes on the peak are common in the afternoons. This impressive mountain is best seen from the eastern side as the mountain ridge rises quickly towering over 10,000 feet above the valley floor.
